BLOG HOP 10/24/12 – WEEK 19 The Next Best Thing!
First off, a very special thank you goes out to paranormal romance author, Tish Thawer, for her invitation to participate in this Blog Hop. I had the great pleasure of meeting her at RomCon 2012 in Denver, CO, this summer and she’s been a very special author friend since then.
In this Hop, authors will answer ten predetermined questions regarding their current work or newest release.
What is the working title of your book? Vampire Dental, Veneers, a Chelsey Bloodworth, DDS Novella.
Where did the idea come from for the book? My fifteen year old daughter inspired the series, Vampire Dental, Veneers. She insisted she was tired of the ‘same old vampire tales’ and wanted to mix in elements of her criminology interest and love for suspense novels. Together, we have created an entertaining and unique twist to the typical vampire novel.
What genre does your book fall under? Vampire Dental, Veneers, has all the elements of a suspenseful crime story (serial killers, etc.) with a little detective work. It’s hard to pin down just one genre, so it flows through the YA paranormal, YA romance, crime, detective, suspense and contemporary genres pretty seamlessly.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? This isn’t really anything I’ve thought about – I’d have to get back to you! When I write, I try not to define my character’s appearance too much, I would rather the reader engage and create their own picture in their mind.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? That’s hard to put into just one sentence! I’ll take a quote from one of the 5 star reviews Vampire Dental has gotten on Amazon: “Vampire Dental Veneers is a story about Dr. Chelsey Bloodworth, her love interest Detective Josiah Reed, and her nieces during the time of a serial killer, aptly names the ‘Fang Faerie’. “
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? This book is self-published through Amazon. Also – we are currently in the early stages of negotiating film rights with a respected production house. So – cross your fingers, we may be seeing Vampire Dental on the big screen at some point.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? Wow – this is a process which I don’t really document well enough. It was longer than I remember, but not as long as you might think…J
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? The premise of Vampire Dental is so unique; I’m not sure there is any other story that I could say is similar.
Who or What inspired you to write this book? My daughter asked me to write a vampire YA series that wasn’t a cookie-cutter representation of every other book out there. Picking her brain and using her as a consultant, I think I’ve done just that.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? There are some interesting family dynamics, surprising plot twists and many surprises that will keep the reader on their toes. I’ve also been told the book has a lot of comedy which will have you laughing out loud.
In addition, because October, 2012 is Breast Cancer Awareness month, ALL net proceeds from the sale of Vampire Dental, Veneers are being donated to a fund established in the name of my Aunt Ruby who is currently fighting the fight.
I am also offering FREE signed cover flats of Vampire Dental, Veneers, to anyone who donates directly to her Chipin fund, for those who donate over $10, I will also send the eBook through Kindle for FREE.
Below you’ll find a list of the awesome authors I’ve tagged for next week. Please stop by their blogs next Wednesday, October 31st and enjoy their Q&A on Halloween!
